Ministry of IT to launch ‘Smartphone for All’ project on easy installments

The "Smartphone for All" project, announced by Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Dr Umar Saif, aims to provide individuals with the opportunity to acquire smartphones through convenient instalment plans. Alongside this initiative, the Ministry of IT is actively working on establishing a research and development fund.

This fund is designed to bolster support for mobile phone manufacturing companies, fostering the expansion and development of the mobile phone manufacturing sector, as highlighted in Dr Umar Saif's statement on his official social media account.

Regarding the “Smartphone for All” project, he explained that in the event of failure to pay instalments, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would block the handset following the pattern of the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS).

This forward-thinking approach aligns with the ministry's commitment to enhance accessibility to technology, particularly in the realm of smartphones. By offering easy instalment options, the "Smartphone for All" project seeks to bridge the digital divide and ensure that a broader segment of the population can benefit from the advantages of mobile connectivity.

Concurrently, the investment in a research and development fund underscores the government's strategic focus on nurturing innovation and growth within the mobile phone manufacturing industry, ultimately contributing to technological advancements and economic development.
