Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, originated the social media giant while a student at Harvard University in 2004. Boasting 3.88 billion monthly users, Meta Platforms has evolved into the world's largest social network, including ownership of Instagram and WhatsApp, both acquired and significantly expanded. 

  

Serving as the CEO of Meta, Zuckerberg, who took the company public in 2012, retains approximately 13% ownership. Together with his wife Priscilla Chan, they have committed to directing 99% of their stock toward initiatives supporting human potential, notably funding ambitious projects targeting the cure, management, or prevention of all diseases by the end of the century. 

Zuckerberg's philanthropic endeavors and Meta's strategic focus were discussed in interviews with Forbes earlier in the year and in September, respectively. Mark Zuckerberg reentered the top 10 richest individuals globally in the summer of 2023, marking his return since January 2022, propelled by a surge in the price of Meta's stock. 

Notably, his fortune saw a $9.4 billion increase in December, coinciding with a 9% climb in Meta's stock value.

Rs90m penalty slapped on banks

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has imposed a paltry penalty of Rs90 million on five commercial banks for their role in Rs70 billion worth of money laundering despite finding serious violations from these financial institutions. Proceedings of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday were shocking for some members of the committee who saw the central bank protecting the banks instead of penalising them. The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the SBP’s response regarding an investigation into substantial money laundering by solar panel importers. The Senate panel, led by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, observed that the SBP might be withholding crucial details.
